Be Different Bass
Be Different/Bass Club
Our Goal is simple, to elevate members’ knowledge of bass fishing the Delta through participation in a different kind of club. This will be a learning oriented club rather than a competition oriented club. Tournaments will be conducted to learn and provide friendly competition and camaraderie. Tournament guidelines will be as follows:
- Each tournament will be focused on a specified area (such as Victoria Canal, etc.), and the area will not be announced until just before launch to eliminate area-specific pre-fishing.
- As the club grows, a larger designated area will be selected, but will still be limited to a common area so results can be meaningful for sharing.
- The group will launch together and caravan by boat (for safety purposes) to the designated area, and caravan back to the launch area at the end of the day.
- Tournament results will be discussed at the next club meeting after the tournament, and the top anglers will act as mentors for the group, thoroughly discussing their winning methods and techniques, and approach to the day.
- Tournament entry fees and payout will be very modest, to help with expenses but not to allow the money to become the primary motivation.
- Stats will be maintained for each angler, that the angler can use to measure his learning progress (number and average number of keepers, number and average number weighed, weight and average weight, etc.), in addition to the usual points rankings.
- Some tournaments, as determined by a vote of the members may also be designated as “technique-specific”, such as jigs only, frogs only, etc.
- Tournaments usually occur on the Saturday following the meeting, but flexibility among members may allow for some exceptions.
- Format is blind draw angler/angler events. There will be no “boater/non-boater category”. Each boater will be urged to work to put his boat on fish, not to back-seat his companion for the day. Boaters will be encouraged to share the trolling motor for a part of each day. It is important for newer and younger anglers to learn boat positioning and control, for fishing as well as for safety purposes.
- Points based club, 5 per meeting, 5 per event and points for tournament results.
- Tournament fee 10 bucks, optional.
Monthly club meetings will mainly consist of a discussion period about the most recent tournament, and a program. Programs will be educational, not oriented to selling products.
Discussion period will provide the following:
- The way a number of different anglers approached fishing the same relative area and conditions, and the results they achieved.
- Influence of existing conditions of tide and weather.
- Discussion of most and least effective techniques and baits used.
Programs will be designed to educate the members on topics of interest for fishing the Delta. Program guidelines will be as follows:
- Specific time limits will be enforced. This club will meet on time and finish on time, as much as possible.
- Pro staff people will be invited, but not for purposes of product promotion. Product promotion will be discouraged and presenters who fail to comply with this will not be invited to return. Some club members may be in businesses or other situations where they are exposed to new fishing developments. Those members will be welcome to demonstrate (but not endorse) products that are available, and share samples when available.
- Members will be polled to determine what program topics are desired and getting those programs will be the objective of the club.
